Piermont was founded in 1869, but very little was done. A San Francisco company purchased half-interest in many locations after rich silver discoveries in the spring of 1871. A camp was formed which at it's peak in 1872 had about 400 inhabitants and a ten-stamp mill. Piermont played out in 1873. It was revived in World war I, in the 1920s. It was worked up until World War II.
