Lander was an active mining camp in the Bullion District in the early 1870s and through the 1880s. Two smelters were erected, and at its peak, fifty some miners worked here. In 1906 the district revived and had a saloon, boarding house, and post office. By 1909 the mines had declined and the site was abandoned.
