The Red Rock Mercury Mine (Fish Lake Valley) was a family owned and operated mine first discovered back in 1927 by George Dunnigan who had worked in Tonopah and Goldfield during their boom days as a teamster until the railroads replaced the freight lines. The mine was one of 16 quicksilver mines that had operated through WWII, and had survived the mercury market tailspin from 1946 through 1950. The mine is entirely underground and has 4000 feet of tunnels. The mine operated up to 1957, when the government removed the price guarantee from mercury.
